    Basic Allowance For Housing (BAH) is provided by the military to help active service members with housing costs, and can be used for either on- or off-base housing.

    The Housing Management Office (HMO) will be your first point of contact when you receive moving orders, and provides services that will help you with referrals, relocation assistance, guidance for entering a lease agreement and tenant-landlord disputes.

    • Single airmen ranked E1-E4 with less than 3 years of service will need to contact The Unaccompanied Housing Office at (805) 605-2048.

    • On-base housing for is privatized. Contact Balfour Beatty Communities (805) 734-1445 to check available housing for your rank and family size. They have 2-4 bedroom homes with varying amenities, such as: fenced yard, washer/dryer hookups and garage. The communities feature sport courts, playgrounds, garden and a dog park.

    Lompoc is the closest city to Vandenberg AFB, although Santa Maria is a larger nearby city. Lompoc has about 43,000 people, and Santa Maria about 100,000. Other nearby small communities include: Mission Hills, Vandenberg Village, and Orcutt. Commuting Lompoc to Vandenberg takes about 15 minutes; Santa Maria is about 25 minutes to Vandenberg. Lompoc and Santa Maria are mid-sized cities on the south side of California's Central Coast region, a dry area with warm summers and mild winters. Vandenberg AFB is in a hilly area between the Lompoc and Santa Maria Valley. Vandenberg and launch facilities are in a fairly isolated area, but there is access to a number of activities and local events.

    About the Base
    Vandenberg Air Force Base is home to the 14th Air Force and the 30th Space Wing. The base mission is to provide space and missile testing for the Department of Defense, near-polar orbit placement of satellites, and houses the Western Range space launch range which is used for both government and commercial operations. Vandenberg is located outside of Santa Barbara, California.
